The CETA Experience

The CETA Experience - For Students

Our Service

A fantastic tour abroad is all about good planning. We’re much more than simply tour guides. We’re right here with you and your teacher every step of the way. If you have questions, ask us. We’re happy to help. But we also listen. We communicate with your teacher to learn what is important to your group, then suggest and plan your tour accordingly.

Throughout the year CETA will provide information and assistance to help you and your teacher prepare for your upcoming tour.

Joining A Tour

  • Full-color brochures with the tour application will be available through your teacher.
  • Your teacher will set up an informational sign-up meeting that includes a presentation to give you a clear understanding of what to expect.
  • You'll see pictures from past tours in the region you will be visiting, learn what's included in the tour, and how much it will cost.
  • Your teacher will collect initial deposits and applications. Once your application is processed, CETA Tours will handle all billing.
  • You will receive an Acknowledgement of Deposit with information about travel insurance options. Students and parents should review trip cancellation/interruption and temporary medical insurance options, which can be purchased through CETA Tours.

Tour Preparation

CETA Tours does absolutely everything we can to help ensure you have a fantastic trip. We do this by giving you guidelines and a handbook to help you along the way.

Travel Handbook for Students & Parents
Your teacher will distribute this handbook or ask you to download it via our website. It will let you know:

  • What to pack
  • What to expect at the hotels or student centers
  • What to expect in a restaurant
  • What to expect on a typical day on tour
  • Websites of the cities and countries visited
  • Basic vocabulary that is frequently used on tour
  • Information about cultural differences
  • How to deal with homesickness
  • Information about getting money abroad
  • Passport application information, including information about the cost of a passport, the necessary steps and required documentation to get one.
  • Information about immunization requirements and general health precautions.

Family stay questionnaire (when applicable)
If your school is participating in a family stay, your teacher will give you a family stay questionnaire to complete, plus instructions about writing a letter of introduction to your host family. CETA Tours will let your teacher know when you need to complete the questionnaire and letter to your prospective host family.

Shortly before departure, you will receive a list of all of the host families' names, addresses and phone numbers as well as contact information for your teacher. At least one teacher or chaperone will be in the town during the family stay and be available as needed.

Pre - Departure Materials

The following materials are mailed to your teacher prior to departure and will be distributed at a pre-departure meeting:

Flight schedule
Along with your flight times and numbers, your flight schedule also has information about where to check in and phone numbers/website for your airline.

Airline luggage requirements
Printed on the reverse of the flight schedule, this document will give you the carry-on size and checked baggage size requirements specific to the airline your group will be flying.

Passport pouch
You will receive a passport pouch (worn around your neck and under your clothing) to make sure your passport, money and ATM cards are safe.

Accommodations List
This list has the names, addresses, phone and fax numbers of all of the places your group is staying. This copy should be left at home. You will receive another accommodations list at the airport.

On Departure Day

Your teacher will have the following items for you at the airport:

Luggage tags
You will receive two luggage tags (with your name and address pre-printed on both) – one for your carry-on bag and one for your checked suitcase.

Passport Accommodations List
A passport-sized accommodations list will be provided to tape into your passport. This way, you have a list of where you’re staying with you at all times.

While on Tour

  • An experienced tour leader or your teacher will manage your trip. Your teacher will know the tour leader’s name at the pre-departure meeting shortly prior to departure.
  • CETA Tours provides emergency contact numbers to tour leaders and teachers so that they can reach a CETA staff member 24 hours/day. If you call CETA Tours after business hours, there is always an after-hours phone number provided for emergencies.
  • Teachers receive home and emergency phone numbers for their students.
  • CETA Tours requires teachers to submit a phone tree, which will be activated if needed.

Don't just take our word for it...

I almost didn't sign up for the trip, but now I cannot imagine my life if I would not have gone. The people I met, the experiences I had, and the memories I keep, will be with me forever. Seriously, thank you. Thank you so much.
